We are delighted that the Heritage Lottery Fund has agreed to largely fund urgent work on the church tower. FOSMA are already working hard to show our support as a community for this project with assistance from the grants that the PCC has in hand. The following work has begun.
Erection of scaffolding to all four sides of the Tower to allow for masonry repairs, with a hoarding at the base. The work is to include rebuilding of the badly damaged eastern parapet and re-leading the parapet gutters, as well as isolated replacement stonework, piece repairs, repointing, repairs to the belfry louvres and replace two gargoyles. A conservator will carry out careful repairs to the carved cornice frieze. The downpipes will be overhauled and isolated glazing repairs carried out.
This year the chancel of our church is 600 years old. As Patrons New College Oxford are responsible for this part of our church and we very much hope to share a celebration with them latter in the year.
Meanwhile, our services in June, except the family service, will take place in the chancel, it is a marvellous area of our church to hold services and we hope it will be a real squash to get everyone in and hope you will be able to attend a service.
