Church Tower Restoration
We are delighted that the Heritage Lottery Fund has agreed to largely fund urgent work on the church tower. FOSMA continue to work hard to show our support as a community for this project with assistance from the grants that the PCC has in hand.
For details of the latest work carried out to date and to find out what work will be happening next please take a look at the Tower project display in church. The completion date for the project has now been moved to mid April due to various issues including stone delivery problems. The Stone Edge team are currently working hard on the vital stonework around the parapet and we can look forward to the return and refitting of the cleaned and restored clock faces. During our service on Sunday 24th February 2019 Cannon Christopher Hall dedicating our wonderful, new Owl grotesque and Bat gargoyle who are currently both in church for people to come and admire. The dedication was a very special moment for the Tower project and for the history of our beautiful building. The Bat and Owl will remain in church a while longer before the team from Stone Edge hoist them up to their final positions on the Tower in the next couple of weeks.
There has been some discussion in church recently about what is the difference between a gargoyle and a grotesque. Quite simply although the owl will technically be a grotesque, the bat will be a gargoyle because it will have a lead lined channel draining water from the parapet. Another interesting fact arising from the Tower project.

I Will Turn (a prayer for Lent)
Lord, I will turn,
Turn my face towards you.
I will lay before you the desert areas I hide
And turn to soak in your refreshing words of life.
I will cast aside the barren, selfish pursuits
And turn to rest in the tranquil warmth of your love.
I will draw back from the harsh pull of media
And turn to bathe in the gentle power of your Spirit.
Lord, today I turn my face towards you.
I will turn
To soak in your words of life,
To rest in the warmth of your love,
And to bathe in the power of your Spirit.
