We are delighted that the Heritage Lottery Fund has agreed to largely fund urgent work on the church tower. FOSMA are already working hard to show our support as a community for this project with assistance from the grants that the PCC has in hand. The following work will begin next spring.
Erection of scaffolding to all four sides of the Tower to allow for masonry repairs, with a hoarding at the base. The work is to include rebuilding of the badly damaged eastern parapet and re-leading the parapet gutters, as well as isolated replacement stonework, piece repairs, repointing, repairs to the belfry louvres and replace two gargoyles. A conservator will carry out careful repairs to the carved cornice frieze. The downpipes will be overhauled and isolated glazing repairs carried out.
Thy Kingdom come
Waiting in WonderStarting on the 11th May between Ascension and Pentecost we will be following Waiting in Wonder an A6-sized booklet available in church, containing nine reflections and prayers written by the Revd Michaela A Youngson. Each day a different time will be available to use these together, details to follow. It also includes images from the Methodist Modern Art Collection. The booklet can be used between Ascension and Pentecost
Church and School Fete
A date for your diary, the fete this year is on the afternoon of 9th June. Please start collecting Bric a Brac, books and any unwanted gifts ('New to You' tom-bola stall). Nearer the date cakes and plants will be gratefully received. Do you have a gazebo lurking in your shed or garage? Because of the unpredictable nature of our weather loans of gazebos on the day are particularly welcome to shelter stall holders; hopefully from sun but sometime showers. The theme of this year's fete is celebration of 250 years of the Circus. Gill Collett
