Have A Go Days, 28 Aug and 11 Sep
We are planning an event to engage with the public and the tower project. Tuesday 28th August (for the village) and Tuesday 11th September (for local schools) 10 am-1 pm – and Stone Edge have agreed to host a day with some stone to be chiselled and a display of apprentice pieces.
Church Tower Restoration
We are delighted that the Heritage Lottery Fund has agreed to largely fund urgent work on the church tower. FOSMA are already working hard to show our support as a community for this project with assistance from the grants that the PCC has in hand. The following work has begun.
Erection of scaffolding to all four sides of the Tower to allow for masonry repairs, with a hoarding at the base. The work is to include rebuilding of the badly damaged eastern parapet and re-leading the parapet gutters, as well as isolated replacement stonework, piece repairs, repointing, repairs to the belfry louvres and replace two gargoyles. A conservator will carry out careful repairs to the carved cornice frieze. The downpipes will be overhauled and isolated glazing repairs carried out.
100 DAYS OF PEACE + HOPE
Remembrance 100 – 100 years, 100 days and two minutes of silence. On Sunday, 4 August 1918, the fourth anniversary of the declaration of war 1914, King George V and Queen Mary joined members of the House of Commons and the House of Lords for a special service at the Church of Saint Margaret, Westminster. The King had asked that 4 August 1918 should be observed as a National Day of Prayer. One hundred days later the war ended. On 4 August 2018 churches across the country will have started 100 days of prayer, peace and reconciliation, called Remembrance 100. Christian ministries, charities and members of the Armed Forces from Britain and the Commonwealth have provided prayers and suggestions for peace-making activities.
In his introduction to 100 Days of Peace and Hope Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby writes, ‘Let us mark 100 days with prayers for peace, hope and reconciliation.’ See: www.remembrance100.co.uk/100 days. Please join us.
