The NaveThe word nave derives from the latin for "ship" with the association of congregation and priests travelling together towards God. Centuries of Christian witness dwell here, the memory engraved in the faces of the knights and their ladies on the capitals of the pillars where the transepts meet the aisles. The inner pillars are adorned by heads of sheep as a reminder of the wool wealth that built this church.
Our practice is to have prayers of intercession read from the crossing, the body of the congregation. Prayer God our Father, help us to be quiet and still. May we hear your Word above the noise of the world. In this moment may we reflect on the wonder of all your creation and know that it is good. Amen. |
