The High AltarOur high altar - the holy heart of the church - is built from stone. Its coloured cloths celebrate the Church's liturgical seasons; purple, repentance at Advent and Lent, white, celebration at Christmas and Easter, red, the fire of Pentecost, and green, new life during Trinity. St Mary's church has a magnificent reredos (an ornamented wall or screen behind the high altar). Erected in 1897, the 16 stone statues consist of the 11 disciples with the addition of St Barnabas, St Mathias, St Paul and, raised at each end, the wonderful statues of the Archangel Gabriel and the Virgin Mary.
